#AndNEW: Io Shirai & Zoey Stark Win The NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship

On July 6, 2021, WWE’s black-and-gold brand put on a display as NXT Great American Bash aired live on USA Network. At this event, the Capitol Wrestling Center would witness the crowning of new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions (and a stellar return from injury).

In this match, The Way (Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell) defended their NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships against the newly established team of Zoey Stark and Io Shirai. The champions would head into this contest with a high amount of momentum, as LeRae and Hartwell won their last two matches on NXT television. Stark and Shirai, on the other hand, find themselves at 2-0 in tag team competition.

The challengers earned their spot in this match one week ago after they defeated Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart and Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez in a triple threat tag team #1 contender’s match.

In this match, Io Shirai and Zoey Stark would put up a major battle against their opponents. However, just as it seemed like they would be walking out of the Capitol Wrestling Center without the titles, something strange happened.

Strange visuals began to appear on the Tron, leading to the return of one of NXT’s most promising women’s wrestlers – Tegan Nox.

This was Tegan Nox’s first appearance on WWE programming following her injury in September 2020. Now, Nox is back in action and ready to avenge her loss against Candice LeRae from earlier that year. Nox would end up costing LeRae and Hartwell the titles, meaning we have new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
