On This Day: July 18, 2010 – The Miz Wins Money in the Bank
On This Day, WWE presented Money in the Bank from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. About 8,000 were in attendance, with 165,000 homes purchasing the event on PPV. The Miz grabbed the briefcase defeating the likes of Edge, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Evan Bourne, Ted DiBiase, John Morrison, and Mark Henry.
The beginning ensued in chaos when Edge decided to just get a ringside seat and watch. But the rest of the superstars spilled their way to the outside. Edge being the ultimate opportunist that he is makes an early attempt to win the match. Luckily Randy Orton climbs inside the ring and makes the save. It didn’t take long for the competitors to start using the ladder to their advantage. Everyone got their chance to swing the steel.
It started off with DiBiase using it as a battering ram. Then Randy Orton decided to substitute ladder rungs for ring ropes as he hit a beautiful draping DDT on Evan Bourne. High-spots were the theme of the match. Mark Henry got to shine when he stood in the middle of two ladders filled with his competitors, and he knocked them down like the Hulk tearing apart a building. Then John Morrison showed off his agility when he used one ladder to pole vault to another.
The match is filled with finishing moves and high-impact collisions. More than one superstar had their chance at the contract. At one point, it looked like Evan Bourne had won. He had just hit the “Air Bourne” on Orton, and Jericho was caught upsidedown on the ladder. Bourne had both hands on the briefcase twice and couldn’t unlatch it.
As the match began to come to a close, Edge and Jericho were the only two in the ring. They were trading punches, and the fans in the arena thought for sure that one of them was going to win. But out of nowhere, Randy Orton appeared and hit a massive RKO on Y2J. Then he pushed Edge off the ladder, causing him to crash below. That’s it, right? Wrong! Just as the Viper had two hands on the contract, The Miz appears out of nowhere and knocks Orton to the floor! The Miz climbs the ladder and grabs the briefcase, and On This Day, July 18, 2010, became Mr. Money in the Bank.
Match Result: The Miz defeated Chris Jericho, Edge, Evan Bourne, John Morrison, Mark Henry, Randy Orton, and Ted DiBiase to win the Raw Money In The Bank briefcase in 20:27.
